A2P 10DLC Compliance — What It Is and Why It Matters

Why Your Business Texts Need Federal Registration

If you’re sending automated text messages to leads and customers in 2026, your number has to be registered with The Campaign Registry. If it’s not, carriers will block your messages before they ever reach a phone.

What is A2P 10DLC? A2P stands for Application-to-Person. 10DLC stands for 10-Digit Long Code, which is the standard local and toll-free phone number format businesses use for SMS. Since 2023, the major US carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) require every business sending automated SMS to register their brand and messaging campaign with The Campaign Registry. Unregistered messages are filtered or blocked entirely.

What This Means for Your Business

If you’re running a missed-call text-back, an AI conversation agent, or any automated follow-up sequence and your number is not registered, your messages are going to spam or not delivering at all. You’re paying for a lead response pipeline that isn’t reaching your leads.

What Registration Requires

To register your business for A2P messaging you need your legal business name, your EIN (Employer Identification Number) and the IRS CP-575 or 147c letter that confirms it, your business address and website, and a documented opt-in method showing how customers consent to receive your texts.

This is not optional. It is federal carrier compliance. And it is exactly why my RSE setup fee covers it.

Included in Every RSE Setup Fee

When you pay the RSE setup fee, full A2P 10DLC Carrier Registration is included. As of 2026, mobile carriers block business texts that are not federally registered with The Campaign Registry. I handle the legal tech compliance so your automated messages actually reach your leads’ phones instead of hitting the spam filter. You provide your EIN documentation. I handle everything else.

What You Need to Provide

To complete your registration I need one document from you. Your IRS CP-575 EIN Confirmation Letter, or if you have lost it, a 147c Letter which you can request from the IRS by calling 1-800-829-4933. This confirms your legal business name and EIN exactly as the carriers require it.

Everything else including brand registration, campaign registration, number provisioning, webhook configuration, and the full Make.com build is handled by me as part of your setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t have an EIN?

If you operate as a sole proprietor without an EIN, you can apply for one free at irs.gov in about 10 minutes. You’ll receive your CP-575 confirmation by mail within a few weeks, or you can request a 147c letter immediately by phone.

How long does registration take?

Toll-free number verification through Telnyx typically approves within 24 hours. Local 10DLC registration through The Campaign Registry takes 1 to 2 weeks. I recommend toll-free for most clients who want to go live faster.

What happens if I skip registration?

Your automated texts will be filtered or blocked by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The leads you paid for won’t hear from you. Registration is not optional if you want your pipeline to actually work.
